School Board Meetings
The North River School District Board of Directors holds a regular monthly business meeting on the third Monday of every month at 5:00 p.m.
Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 20-28, in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, temporarily suspends portions of Open Public Meeting Act (OPMA). The proclamation requires that all attendance at an open public meeting not take place in-person but occur remotely, including the board directors and the public. Members of the public may log in or participate through a phone call.

Bethany Mizushima (Chair)
Bethany "Beth" Mizushima serves as board chair. She received a Bachelors of Art and Masters of Anthropology from Colorado State University. In addition, Beth earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of Washington. Currently serving as Deputy Director of Grays Public Health Department, Beth brings over 6 years of experience in rural and local public health practice. She values public education and student learning and achievement.
James Banas (Vice-Chair)
James "Jim" Banas serves as vice-chair and is in his 15th year of service. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City College and served in the U.S. Air Force as an officer and pilot for 20 years before returning. He then worked for as a Safety Engineer for the Department of Defense for 11 years before a second retirement. Jim has enjoyed substituting. He values students, the school environment, and representing the community taxpayers.
Bob Sholes has been a North River resident for 77 years! He brings experience as a business owner and logger. Bob has served on the North River Board of Directors for over 20 years, and believes in making a difference in the lives of our students.
Carloyn Lande brings experience as a business owner to the board. As a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers, Carolyn has made floral arrangements for the White House! Carolyn has also traveled across Europe, training florists in business and western design. In addition, she has taught at Dallas Community College. Carolyn has served on many board of directors and takes her fiduciary responsibility seriously.
Julie brings her experience as a business owner to the board. Having her own cleaning service, Julie understands the importance of hard work and dedication. In addition, Julie keeps a pulse on North River in her role as grandmother to three, currently enrolled, students. Julie also has experience as a preschool teacher, and brings her love of learning to her position.
